Summary:
Prof Louis Cheng started the Symposium 1 with a summary of key messages from the two seminars organised in 2023. Ms Vivi Hu presented the topics about ESG ratings and pollutant discharge, together with several real-life case studies applying different ESG data collection strategies for alpha generations. Mr Chris Tse introduced how the professional investors strike a balance and to minimize these risks by using alternative data and the challenges of accessing alternative data. Mr Hauman Yeung shared evaluation issues which include wrong calculations of reporting items, missing important reporting items, wrong use of reporting unit, incomplete information, and irrelevant data. Dr Liane Lee explained the survey, which was designed by her and her research team, was conducted in 2023 with the employees in the USA and Hong Kong. She illustrated how the survey was conducted and the mediation analysis and the implication of the survey. Lastly, Prof Louis Cheng continue updating the i-Score scorecard (v3.0) which is the complete list of Top 500 firms.

Outline:
We will strengthen the application value for business professionals on interpretation of ESG performance for listed firms using big data and AI tools in this symposium. Specifically, we will showcase how our proprietary ESG performance measure can be used to support business decisions. The complete list of Top 500 firms from the i-Composite Scorecard will be announced.
